How to choose the right essential oils?

1. Identify the problem.
Why do you want to start using essential oils? Do you have physical problems? Is it chronic or acute? Maybe you just want to relax? Or would you like to perfume your apartment?
Once you know what you want, you will also know which essential oil to choose.
It is true that there is an oil that is intended for a specific use, but also consider the desire for the smell when making a personal choice. An example is lavender, which is suitable for calming, but some people simply cannot smell it. Another oil (say Vetiver) is then used for this purpose.
Aromatherapy is different for each individual.

2. Also consider oils that affect the soul
Essential oils are also said to have a therapeutic effect on the health of your soul. It affects mental health.
Evidence from ancient Egypt tells us that essential oils were probably used before 4500 BC. The ancient Egyptians are known for their knowledge of cosmetics and scented ointments.
As the Egyptians already knew, essential oils have various properties that we must take into account. Some warm, others cool, and some resonate with us in different parts of the body.
For example, eucalyptol is a chemical found primarily in eucalyptus and rosemary. This chemical menthol triggers cold-sensitive receptors in the skin and is responsible for the cooling sensation.
Peppermint essential oil is strongly refreshing and invigorating, partly due to its high menthol content. These oils are always diluted with base oils (almond, olive, coconut...).
While some oils are cooling, others are warming. High phenolic oils containing chemicals such as carvacrol, eugenol and thymol are known to be hot. These oils should be used with caution. These are oils: oregano, thyme, cinnamon and cloves. Warming oils are also: burdock, marjoram, ginger, basil and black pepper.
The oils also support the feminine yin or masculine yang energy. They help to ground and open certain chakras.

3. Combination of oils
Synergy. Although individual essential oils are powerful, combining different essential oils allows them to work together and result in a greater benefit than the sum of their individual effects. Often use a blend of 3-4 essential oils. You have a key oil (you add more, or it's a stronger scent), then you have an enhancer for that scent (that is, it helps emphasize the base scent) and then you have a harmonizer (an oil that ties the rest together). Examples are marjoram, lavender, and chamomile (for sleep and relaxation).

4. Pay attention to what oils you buy
There are also many fake oils. It is very important that you are familiar with the real prices of essential oils - especially for pure and rare oils. For example, rose, jasmine and sandalwood, which are sold in small quantities and the price should shock you. A real rose is, say, 5 ml around 300 euros.
There is no regulatory body for essential oils that scientifically evaluates and certifies the purity of essential oils, so be careful with these claims as well.
The best way to check oils is to do your own testing!

5. What about essential oils?
It should be noted that essential oils, as well as base oils and butters, have an expiration date. Especially when it comes to citrus essential oils, as they usually last only one year. They should be stored in a cool place, preferably a refrigerator. Base oils, on the other hand, usually need to be used somewhere between six months and one year after purchase.
Take care of your hands to avoid problems such as skin sensitivity.

6. Essential oils do not evaporate into the air!
An easy way to incorporate aromatherapy into your everyday life is through diffusion. Using diffusers is easy! Pour essential oils and water into the diffuser, and the effects will depend on which oil you use: to reduce stress, create ambiance, support sleep and increase alertness or motivation.
